Barack Obama Biography - Born August 4, 1961) is an American politician, 44th and current President of the United States.

First African American to hold the office, Obama was a junior senator from Illinois State in January 2005 to November 2008, when he resigned after his election to the presidency.

He graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. Organizer and political activist in his community of Chicago before obtaining a law degree, he worked as a lawyer in the defense of civil rights and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004.

Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate for three terms, from 1997 to 2004. After the non-election to the House of Representatives in 2000, she applied to the federal Senate in 2004. His victory in the national Democratic primary in March 2004 (on a large group of contenders) has increased its visibility, and his introductory speech (keynote address) to the next Democratic convention in July has made him one of the leading figures of the Democratic Party. He was then elected U.S. Senator in November 2004, with the largest margin in Illinois history.

On February 10, 2007 officially announced his candidacy for the presidential election of 2008. [2] After a hard butt beat the former first lady and senator of New York Hillary Clinton (favored Eve) to the primary election the Democratic Party. On June 3, 2008 Obama scored a quorum for the Democratic nomination, becoming the first African American candidate to run for the White House, one of the two major parties.

He received the official investiture of the party during the convention held in Denver between 25 and 28 August 2008.

He won the presidential election on November 4, 2008, beating Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, and officially took office as president January 20, 2009.

The U.S. weekly TIME elected him Person of the Year 2008. [3] His official photo was taken for the first time with a digital camera and was released under a Creative Commons license. [4]
